The Texas Longhorns are among the top contenders for the College Football Playoff national championship in 2024. However, they’ve already faced significant challenges this fall before their season has even started.

Texas Football News: Steve Sarkisian Says It's 'Pretty Clear' Quinn Ewers Is Team's Starting QB - Athlon Sports

Steve Sarkisian’s team has been heavily impacted by injuries in the running back position. Sophomore CJ Baxter, who had a promising freshman year with 659 yards and five touchdowns, was sidelined for the season in early August due to a torn LCL/PCL suffered during practice. Shortly after, freshman Christian Clark, who was expected to fill Baxter’s role, was also lost for the year with a torn Achilles.

In just one week, Texas’s running back depth has diminished from a strong position to only three scholarship players available for the 2024 season. Sarkisian and his staff are still working to address this issue with only 11 days remaining before the season opener. Junior Jaydon Blue, with 65 carries for 398 yards and three touchdowns last season, is now the most experienced rusher on the team, joined by sophomore Quintrevion Wisner and freshman Jerrick Gibson.
