Jared Goff picks his side in Michigan State football’s rivalry with Michigan
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has quickly won over fans in Detroit, many of whom also cheer for Michigan State football. Last year, at Michigan State tailgates, Jared Goff’s impressive Lions season sparked numerous conversations among fans.
For those unfamiliar with Jared Goff, he’s the quintessential Californian—he attended high school and college in California before being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. After a trade to the Lions in 2021, Jared Goff faced a dilemma: which team to support in the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry?

Though he had no prior allegiance, he couldn’t avoid taking a side due to the passionate nature of Lions fans. On a recent episode of the podcast *Bussin’ With The Boys*, he revealed his choice: he supports Michigan over Michigan State. Goff mentioned that while he’s not a die-hard fan, his preference for Michigan is largely because Detroit is closer to Ann Arbor than East Lansing.
Though it was a bit disappointing for Michigan State supporters, Jared Goff’s reasoning is understandable. He chose Michigan not out of strong preference but simply due to geographical convenience, leaving fans with a sense of relief that his choice wasn’t driven by any contentious reasons.
