For the first time in 14 years, Pete Carroll won’t be on the sidelines leading the Seattle Seahawks.
The iconic coach will now take on an advisory role, with former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald stepping in as head coach. It’s unclear whether Carroll will return to coaching in the future.
In the meantime, he’ll revisit the place where he first gained widespread recognition in football.
According to an ESPN report (via Adam Schefter), Carroll will be returning to USC this spring to teach a class.

He didn’t go into detail about which class he’d be teaching but expressed great enthusiasm about the opportunity.
Despite his new advisory role with the Seahawks, Coach Carroll mentioned that he has been keeping some distance from the organization. He also noted that he would be providing advisory services to other teams as well.
Carroll admitted that he hasn’t been in contact with Coach Macdonald or his coaching staff.
Carroll coached USC from 2001 to 2009 before his 14-year tenure with the Seahawks, making him one of only three coaches to win both a National Championship and a Super Bowl.
At 72 years old, Carroll remains active and relevant in the professional football world, maintaining both his physical and mental sharpness.
So, while he may be uncertain about his future and whether he’ll return to head coaching, that won’t stop multiple teams from potentially seeking him out in the future.
