Alabama football offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor has had a notable offseason. Last year, he was one of the top offensive linemen in the nation and had a standout season with the Crimson Tide. However, after Nick Saban’s departure at the end of the season, Proctor decided to transfer and committed to Iowa football.
Player transfers have become a common challenge for new head coaches, and Kalen DeBoer faced this issue when he took over as head coach at Alabama. What was unexpected was Proctor’s decision to return to Alabama in the spring.
Proctor reflected on his decision to leave and return, saying, “About a month and a half in, I started to feel like it wasn’t the right place for me, but that’s in the past now,” according to AL.com.
Upon his return to Alabama, Proctor made it a point to apologize to DeBoer. He felt he hadn’t given DeBoer a fair chance when he first arrived.
“When I got back, I apologized because I knew I hadn’t given him a proper chance when he first came here,” Proctor explained. “I felt bad about that. I was set on leaving and wasn’t really open to what he had to say.”
Despite being a top player, Proctor had to work hard to earn his spot back with the Crimson Tide. “I knew I couldn’t just come back and expect to have my spot handed back to me,” Proctor said. “Everyone has to work for their position. I didn’t get mine until fall camp last year, and I knew I needed to put in the effort to earn it again.”
