Jakub Vrana is the newest addition to the Washington Capitals’ informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. He has joined Aliaksei Protas and Vincent Iorio as new participants this week.
The update was shared by Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir on X.
Current Capitals players already in town include John Carlson, Alex Alexeyev, Matt Roy, Logan Thompson, and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Former players like Nick Jensen, Anthony Mantha, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and Lars Eller have also been seen at the rink recently.
Vrana is returning to the Capitals for a second term after signing a professional tryout agreement last week. This agreement is not an NHL contract but allows him a chance to earn a spot on the team during training camp.
Vrana is coming off a three-year, $15.75 million contract ($5.25M cap hit) with Detroit, which he signed in 2021. Although he faces a tough challenge to make the roster, his speed and goal-scoring ability could be an asset for a team that had difficulty scoring goals last season.
Last year, Vrana recorded 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 42 games with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds and added 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 21 games with the St. Louis Blues.
The Capitals’ training camp is scheduled to start in mid-September.
