The Atlanta Braves have signed veteran outfielder Harold Ramirez to a minor league contract, as announced earlier today by Gwinnett Stripers broadcaster Dave Lezotte.
Ramirez, who was released by the Washington Nationals earlier this month, started the season with the Tampa Bay Rays. At nearly 30 years old, he has played 73 games this season with a 73 OPS+. However, he performed better in the previous two seasons with the Rays, posting a 125 OPS+ last year with a .313/.353/.460 slash line in 400 at-bats.
This signing poses no financial risk for the Braves, as Ramirez would only earn the minimum salary if he plays for Atlanta this season. With Gwinnett’s Yuri Gurriel on the 7-day IL, Ramirez adds valuable depth to the team, which Lezotte also reported.
Given the Braves’ injury challenges this season, Ramirez serves as an additional safety net for the major league roster and allows the organization to assess his potential as a depth option for the 2025 season.
In addition to his outfield experience, Ramirez has also played 536 games at first base since making his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2019.
