Ja’Marr Chase has been negotiating for a new contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, and it appears that both parties might be moving closer to an agreement.
Chase participated in practice with the Bengals on Sunday, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. This was the first time during training camp that Chase joined in any team drills.

Before Sunday, Ja’Marr Chase had only participated in individual workouts and walk-throughs on specific days, without engaging in any full practice sessions. His return to practice likely indicates that Chase doesn’t intend to hold out during the regular season.
Chase is currently in the fourth year of his rookie contract, and the Bengals have already exercised his $21.8 million option for next season. This means the former LSU star is under contract through this season and next, with the possibility of the franchise tag extending beyond that. However, Chase is eager to secure a new deal now.
Earlier this offseason, Justin Jefferson redefined the wide receiver market by signing a 4-year, $140 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, which includes $110 million guaranteed—a record for a non-quarterback. Chase had previously made it known that he would use Jefferson’s deal as a benchmark in his own contract negotiations.
In just three years, Chase has firmly established himself as one of the NFL’s elite wide receivers. Last season, he recorded 100 catches for 1,216 yards and 7 touchdowns, despite Joe Burrow missing considerable time. It’s understandable why Chase wants to be among the highest-paid receivers in the league, and he may be on the verge of achieving that goal.
