BREAKING NEWS: Seahawks add depth at DE/LB in a trade with the Jaguars

As NFL teams start trimming their rosters to 53 players by Tuesday, the Seahawks made a noteworthy move on Monday by acquiring defensive end/outside linebacker Trevis Gipson from the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to an initial report from the NFL Network, Seattle traded a late-round pick for Gipson. The lack of details on the pick suggests it may be a conditional selection, potentially dependent on Gipson’s playing time.

This acquisition follows the Seahawks losing their pass rush leader, Uchenna Nwosu, to a knee injury during the first series of Saturday night’s preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns. Coach Mike Macdonald mentioned post-game that further tests were needed to determine the severity of Nwosu’s injury, with more information expected in the coming days.

Ex-Bears, Titans OLB Trevis Gipson signs with Jaguars

The addition of Gipson, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 263 pounds, could serve as a precautionary measure in case Dre’Mont Jones isn’t ready for Week 1.

Jones has been limited in training camp due to a lingering hamstring injury and did not participate in any of the Seahawks’ three preseason games. He briefly returned to practice during the joint sessions with the Titans before their preseason game on August 17 but left early and hasn’t practiced since.

Head coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism about Jones’ recovery, stating, “It’s looking positive and we’re optimistic with Dre’Mont. We’ll see this week how many reps he gets and how we ramp it up.”

The addition of Trevis Gipson might be a move to compensate for the depth lost after trading Darrell Taylor to the Bears last Friday in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2025.
