BREAKING NEWS: Texas Longhorns arm roster defense with new 5-star weapon

It’s rare for a school to recruit a prospect with the potential to be a truly exceptional athlete, but that’s exactly what Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program achieved when 2025 star Jonah Williams committed to the Longhorns on Saturday night, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, Jonah Williams is listed by some sources as a safety and by others as a linebacker. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 205 pounds, Williams appears to be a versatile player capable of contributing in multiple positions on the field. According to 247Sports analyst Hunter Standish, Williams is described as, “A modern defensive chess piece who can move all around the defense while remaining effective against various offensive strategies and styles.” Given his size, skills, and athleticism, a comparison to Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Kyle Hamilton—whom Williams himself cites as a role model—seems fitting for the 17-year-old.

But Jonah Williams is not just a standout defensive player. In his junior season, he earned the title of Texas District 9-5A D-I Defensive Player of the Year and also made significant contributions on offense with 22 touches for over 600 yards and 10 touchdowns. Additionally, he is one of the top baseball recruits in the country.
