BREAKING NEWS: Vikings Part Ways With QB in 1st Wave of Roster Cuts

The Minnesota Vikings made their first round of training camp cuts, which included waiving quarterback Matt Corral and running back Mohamed Ibrahim.

Matt Corral wants to prove he's the best prospect in 2022 quarterback class

On Monday, August 26, the Vikings reduced their roster by 14 players, bringing it down from 91 to 77 in preparation for the final 53-man roster deadline on August 27.

Corral, 25, was added to the camp roster as a replacement for J.J. McCarthy, who had season-ending meniscus surgery after the first preseason game. A third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2022, Corral spent his rookie year on injured reserve and was released shortly after making the initial 53-man roster in 2023. He was on the New England Patriots’ practice squad last season before joining the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions as a backup quarterback.

In the Vikings’ final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Corral came in for Jaren Hall in the third quarter, completing 4 of 6 passes for 13 yards in a limited role.
