Caitlin Clark joked that she looked ‘really soft’ after falling to the floor in pain during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Atlanta Dream.
Clark caused some concern Monday night when she appeared to roll her ankle at State Farm Arena, with TV cameras capturing her in visible agony on the court.
After being checked by Indiana’s staff, the 22-year-old managed to get back on her feet and continue playing, ultimately helping her team secure an 84-79 victory.
During the postgame press conference, Clark revealed that she had sprained her ankle but downplayed its severity, despite acknowledging the pain.
‘Yeah, I saw the replay… I looked really soft,’ she joked. ‘It wasn’t that bad of a turn, but it hurt.’
“Sometimes you just need to take a moment. If you’ve ever sprained your ankle, you know it just stings for a bit,” Clark said. “They asked, ‘Do you want to go in the back?’ and I was like, ‘No, please just tape it up right here. Let’s keep going and get on with the game.'”
“I’ve done it a few times, so it is what it is. You’re not a real basketball player if you haven’t sprained your ankle. That’s when you know.”
Clark ended the night with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, helping the Fever overcome the Dream. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 29 points and seven rebounds, while Aliyah Boston recorded a double-double with 14 points and eleven boards.
