Rams’ Star sidelined After Proposal Drama with Rivals. On Sunday, Jones clarified via social media that he had not requested a trade, though he later deleted the post. Coach Sean McVay supported Jones’ statement, indicating that discussions with Jones’ agent and other teams are ongoing.

“These situations can sometimes become public, but to clarify, Ernest did not request a trade,”  Rams coach McVay explained. “We’re in communication with his representation and have had some talks with other teams. That’s where things stand right now.”

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Jones has started 26 games over the last two seasons. A third-round pick from South Carolina in 2021, he has emerged as a team captain and the defensive play-caller. However, the Rams have historically not invested heavily in the linebacker position under McVay.
