After May’s announcement that F1 design legend Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull in early 2025, speculation about his next move has been rampant, with his name being linked to various teams. Recently, rumors have suggested a potential shift to Aston Martin, and at the Dutch Grand Prix, Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack addressed the speculation.
In an interview with F1 TV, Krack acknowledged the competition for Newey’s signature, stating, “We are all pursuing him, but so are all the other teams. Everyone wants someone of his caliber on their roster. We’re in the mix with other teams. I read that Alpine is also in the fray, but we would be thrilled if he ended up with us.”
During the Team Principals’ press conference, Krack emphasized Aston Martin’s growing appeal, mentioning their developing infrastructure and expressing pride at being associated with Newey’s name. He addressed concerns about integrating Newey into the team, noting that modern F1 teams are flexible and that adjustments could be made to accommodate his expertise, despite already having Dan Fallows as Technical Director and Enrico Cardile coming in as Chief Technical Officer.
Aston Martin, having returned to F1 as a manufacturer team, is now in its fourth season since its comeback. The team finished seventh in 2021 and 2022, and improved to fifth in 2023 with eight podiums. However, they have struggled to compete at the front this year, currently sitting fifth in the constructors’ standings and yet to secure a podium finish.
