Oklahoma football’s key player will miss the season opener due to serious injury
Unfortunately for Oklahoma…junior receiver Nic Anderson will not be available Friday,” said head coach Brent Venables on Wednesday. Anderson has been dealing with an injury since the start of fall camp. While the injury isn’t deemed severe, the exact nature of it remains unclear.
Last season, Anderson had 31 receptions for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns after a limited role in 2022. He was a freshman All-American semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention.
On the other hand, receiver Andrel Anthony will be playing. “He’s doing well,” Venables commented on August 20. “He looked great today… He won’t need to wear (the brace). We’re being cautious with him, but he has no restrictions right now.”
Anthony, a senior who transferred from Michigan, caught 27 passes for 429 yards and one touchdown before his season-ending injury against Texas on October 7. He was the team’s leading receiver at that time.
Additionally, Sooners wideout Jayden Gibson will be sidelined for the entire season due to a knee injury sustained during fall camp. The team will need to adjust its game plan in the absence of two of its top receivers.
