Alex McPherson will not participate in Auburn’s season opener against Alabama A&M this Saturday, as confirmed by Hugh Freeze during the SEC coaches’ media teleconference on Wednesday.
In McPherson’s absence, freshman kicker Towns McGough will take on all kicking responsibilities, including kickoffs, field goals, and extra points.
“Alex will not be available this Saturday, so Towns will handle all our kicking duties. However, we are optimistic about Alex’s progress,” Freeze stated.
McPherson has been sidelined for most of fall camp due to a gastrointestinal illness, which Freeze first disclosed in July. While McPherson has resumed kicking, Freeze did not specify when he would be back in action.
