The New York Yankees are gradually slipping and could lose their top spot in the AL East. Currently, Aaron Boone’s team is just one game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles and has only managed to win five of their last 10 games. Even with standout performances from Aaron Judge, the team needs additional support to build a cushion in their upcoming series against the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals. It would be ideal for Anthony Rizzo and Luis Gil to make their return now.
It seems that Boone and the Yankees fans might soon see their wishes come true. Anthony Rizzo has been sidelined since the Yankees’ 8-4 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on June 16 due to a right arm fracture. The team has been cautious with his recovery. Rizzo has been rehabbing and playing with Double-A Somerset and is expected to rejoin the Yankees during their series with the Cardinals, with a return date projected for August 31 or September 1, according to MLB.com.
