RENTON — On Thursday, the Seahawks bolstered their practice squad with the addition of two veteran players, addressing potential areas of need as they prepare for their season opener against Denver on September 8.

One of the new additions, linebacker Tyreke Smith, marks a return to Seattle. Smith, who was a fifth-round draft pick by the Seahawks in 2022 from Ohio State, missed his rookie season due to a hip injury. Although he made the 53-man roster in 2023 and played in one game, he was waived and later re-signed to the practice squad.
Eventually, Smith joined the Arizona Cardinals’ 53-man roster, appearing in two games, including their season finale against the Seahawks. Recently waived by Arizona, Smith has rejoined Seattle, providing additional depth at strongside linebacker, a position that may be in flux due to a sprained knee sustained by starter Uchenna Nwosu in the preseason finale against Cleveland.
