Eagles Poised for Big Opportunities After James Bradberry’s Injury

Eagles Poised for Big Opportunities After James Bradberry’s Injury. Sometimes, we get so caught up in bets, Fantasy football stats, and Madden NFL ratings that we forget football is a sport played by real people. Many players are focused on securing their families’ futures. Fortunately for Philadelphia Eagles star James Bradberry, this isn’t a concern for him right now. His latest contract, a three-year, $38 million extension, was signed before the 2023 NFL season. While the Eagles have the option to part ways with him after the 2025 NFL offseason, he won’t be leaving the field anytime soon.

On Thursday, it was announced that James suffered a lower-leg injury during Wednesday’s practice, which will likely sideline him for six to eight weeks, with a return in November being the earliest possibility.

Following Bradberry’s placement on injured reserve, the Eagles made two roster moves: Oren Burks was elevated to the active roster, and Brett Toth was added to the practice squad to take Burks’ spot.

While we hope for a swift recovery for James, his injury presents an opportunity for other teammates to step up in his absence.

Tristin McCollum

If you’re like most people, seeing Tristin McCollum’s name on the 53-man roster probably filled you with a sense of pride. After earning some playing time last season and showing potential, he demonstrated significant growth over the spring and summer. Now, he’s moved up to be the third safety on the depth chart, behind C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship.

Avonte Maddox

McCollum is one of two Eagles who will likely fill the snaps that James Bradberry would have played. The other player stepping into those roles is Avonte Maddox. Like Bradberry, Maddox will provide depth at the safety position alongside C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship, but he also brings valuable experience as Philly’s most seasoned slot corner.

Eli Ricks

When the Eagles released their 53-man roster, it seemed like Eli Ricks would only get a chance to play if there were multiple injuries. Although no one expects Eli to step in at safety, he offers value in areas where James Bradberry might have served as extra coverage. Ricks is another potential option for outside cornerback if there are any injury issues with current teammates.

Eli’s long and rangy style is similar to Bradberry’s, and he also has experience playing in the slot.

Andre’ Sam

Andre’ Sam is a young player everyone’s excited about, and we knew he’d be on the practice squad if he cleared waivers. He’s shown he’s worth the Eagles’ investment in him.

While no one expects Sam to see game time right now, James Bradberry’s absence means he’ll get more practice reps than originally planned. Keep pushing, Andre’—you never know when your opportunity might come.

Caden Sterns

We anticipated that Caden Sterns would stick around. The Eagles brought him in late, fully aware he couldn’t practice initially. He seemed like a strong candidate for the practice squad if he cleared waivers.

After all, who would sign a player who can’t pass a physical?

Sterns has a connection with Vic Fangio from their time together in Denver, which likely played a role in his addition. Once he’s medically cleared to practice, he’ll receive more attention and could make a bigger impact.
