Heartbreaker in Michigan: Ole Miss lost its road opener Thursday night to No. 4 Michigan State in East Lansing, falling 1-0. The lone goal came in the 53rd minute from Emily Matthews.

The first half ended without any goals, with Michigan State dominating in shots (7-1) and shots on goal (3-0). The Spartans also earned seven corners, but senior goalkeeper Shu Ohba kept them at bay with three saves.

Ole Miss head coach Molly Rouse noted the importance of facing top teams early in the season for development. She praised the team’s performance, highlighting their ability to compete against a top-ranked team and create scoring opportunities. Rouse believes the team is showing significant improvement and has a promising future.

Ohba had an impressive game, making six saves, but Ole Miss couldn’t convert their late opportunities into a goal. The Rebels (2-2-0) will next play at home against McNeese State on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with the match available for streaming on SEC Network+.
