A year ago, it seemed like Michigan State football was constantly struggling with injuries, making it difficult to field a healthy team. For the past few years, it felt like injuries were relentless, with the Spartans often missing numerous scholarship players each week. Whether it was due to issues with the training staff or just bad luck, the team was frequently undermanned.
However, as the season opener approaches under new head coach Jonathan Smith, the situation appears to be improving. The Mel Tucker era was marked by a staggering number of injuries, often hitting the team all at once and leaving them unable to assemble a full roster even for spring games.
Heading into Friday’s opener, Michigan State seems to be in much better shape. The probable injury list includes WR Montorie Foster Jr. (undisclosed), while WR BJ Alexander (undisclosed) and CB Logic Hudgens (undisclosed) are out.
It’s encouraging to see that there are few injuries as the season starts, which is promising for fans who will see two teams nearly at full strength facing each other.
Smith did note that Foster had an injury a couple of weeks ago that affected his fall camp, but he recently confirmed that the veteran receiver should be available for the game against Florida Atlantic. Foster is a crucial part of the offense and will be needed for the team to succeed.
Let’s hope for a smooth game without any major injuries on Friday night and that Michigan State’s luck continues.
