“2024 Season Will Be My Last With New York,” Yankees Star Confirms

New York is expected to be one of the top teams in the American League in 2024, but payroll decisions could significantly impact the club’s future as they head into 2025. Retaining superstar slugger Juan Soto will be the team’s top priority, and he’s likely to secure a massive contract, whether with New York or another team.

However, if the Yankees re-sign Soto, they may have to let go of other key players in free agency. The most likely to find himself playing elsewhere is star second baseman Gleyber Torres.

Torres has been the subject of trade rumors over the past year, but he remains with the Yankees for now. Despite this, he is aware that this could be his final season with the club, as reported by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.

“Hard business decisions are on the horizon for the Yankees,” Kirschner noted. “The team has Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas on the 40-man roster, both of whom could take over for Torres at second base at a significantly lower cost, though potentially with less production. The possibility that this could be his last season in The Bronx has crossed Torres’ mind.”

“I can’t lie, sometimes I think that it’s going to be my last year here,” Torres admitted, according to Kirschner. “I don’t know the business plan for next year. It’s just motivation for myself. I always say we play for another team sometimes. It’s a business. I don’t know the plan for the Yankees or myself.”

Torres has become a fan favorite in New York and is considered one of the top second basemen in baseball. Losing him would be a significant blow to the team, but what the future holds remains uncertain.
