On Tuesday morning, the status of Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s contract negotiations was highlighted as he continues his “hold-in” while waiting for a new deal. During Tuesday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” NFL insider Adam Schefter provided details on Chase’s contract trajectory, drawing a parallel to the timing of his teammate Joe Burrow’s contract extension last season. Burrow received a substantial five-year, $275 million extension with $219 million guaranteed just minutes before the start of the 2023 NFL season. Schefter suggested that Chase’s situation might follow a similar timeline.

“If we look back at last year, when did Joe Burrow’s deal get done?” Schefter said. “It was eleven minutes into the opener. It feels like we might be on a similar path.”

Schefter also mentioned that even if Chase finalizes his extension within the next 48 hours before the NFL season starts, his involvement in the Week 1 game might be limited to key situations like red zones and third downs due to his limited participation this summer.

Chase, who has been pivotal to the Bengals’ success since his rookie year, is aiming for a deal that exceeds the $35 million per year contracts recently signed by stars such as Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson and Dallas’s CeeDee Lamb.

Despite having two years remaining on his rookie contract, Chase is eager to secure a new deal that reflects his elite status in the league.
