The Raiders’ offseason was dominated by the quarterback battle, which continued through the final week of preseason. Despite settling on Gardner Minshew as their quarterback, many NFL insiders and analysts remain skeptical about the Raiders’ decision and overall quarterback situation. Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network noted, “The Raiders have the NFL’s worst quarterback situation. Teams in this position often cycle through various options. Minshew and O’Connell will likely see action in 2024, but neither is expected to be the long-term starter for Las Vegas in 2025
Minshew’s potential remains uncertain, though he has shown some promise. He nearly led the Indianapolis Colts to the playoffs last season with a 7-6 record while substituting for an injured Anthony Richardson. With talented receivers like Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Brock Bowers, the question is whether these weapons will elevate Minshew’s performance or if he might hold them back. The new-look Raiders offense, which has yet to fully debut with all starters and new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, will be under scrutiny.
The Raiders’ fortunes will largely depend on how well Getsy and Minshew can collaborate. If they want to shed the “worst quarterback situation of 2024” label, they must aim to keep games competitive while leveraging their strong defense.
