Geno Smith has yet to play under new head coach Mike Macdonald, but speculation is already swirling that the Seattle Seahawks might make a quarterback move in 2025. Could Texas Longhorns standout Quinn Ewers be on Seattle’s radar?
I’m not convinced that Ewers would be a significant upgrade over Smith, but a prospect like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders might be a different story. Nevertheless, Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano has predicted that the Seahawks could trade up with the Minnesota Vikings in the 2025 NFL draft to select Ewers.

In this mock draft, the Vikings hold the No. 6 pick, and the Seahawks would likely need to give up a substantial package to move up, especially if Seattle performs as expected in 2024.
“With the Vikings selecting quarterback J.J. McCarthy in April, they were open to trading down and accepting the Seahawks’ offer, which included multiple picks and at least one future first-round pick,” Manzano wrote in an August 29, 2024, article titled “Way-Too-Early 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Our Top 10 Predictions.”
“By now, the Seahawks should realize that Geno Smith is not their long-term solution at quarterback, regardless of his performance in 2024. Some may be surprised to see Ewers ranked above Shedeur Sanders, but perhaps Ewers achieves consistency and delivers a dominant season at Texas.”
