Just this past Saturday, San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot during an attempted robbery in the Union Square area of San Francisco.
Initial reports varied significantly regarding Pearsall’s condition. He was subsequently hospitalized and found to be in serious condition.
However, a remarkable turn of events followed. Pearsall was discharged from the hospital the very next day, having only sustained a flesh wound to the chest, which did not require surgery.
Now, less than a week after this harrowing incident, Pearsall is already back on the practice field in Santa Clara, observing his team’s preparations for their Week 1 game against the New York Jets.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Thursday that the bullet struck Ricky Pearsall just two inches below a tattoo of praying hands on his chest. This close call underscores how narrowly Pearsall avoided a severe injury.
In a surprising development, Pearsall reportedly told Shanahan he felt capable of playing in San Francisco’s season opener against the New York Jets on Monday. However, that won’t be possible. The 49ers have placed him on the non-football injury list, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the season.
“He’s attending meetings and staying involved,” Shanahan said to reporters. “He’s aiming to take it easy for a week or so before starting his rehab and working his way back.”
The 17-year-old suspected of shooting Pearsall is facing attempted murder charges.
Despite this setback, it seems likely that Pearsall will be back on the field sooner rather than later.
