Breaking News: Bengals Agree to Re-sign Pro Bowl Wide Receiver on a Four-Year, $160 Million Extension

During an appearance on ESPN 1530’s Cincy 3:60, Richard Skinner of Local 12 shared insights on what Ja’Marr Chase might be aiming for in his contract negotiations. Skinner mentioned that Chase’s camp is likely seeking a four-year deal worth close to $160 million, with around $120 million guaranteed.

While that figure may surprise some, it shouldn’t. Chase still has two years left on his current contract, and securing an additional four-year commitment from him will likely require more than what Justin Jefferson received in his recent four-year, $140 million deal with the Vikings.

Ja'Marr Chase practices no new contract yet with Bengals

Jefferson, however, waited until after his fourth season to sign his extension, which covers the next five years. Chase, on the other hand, has two years remaining, meaning a new deal would stretch to six years if a four-year extension is added.

In June, I suggested the Bengals offer Chase a four-year, $150 million extension with $115 million guaranteed. This would amount to a six-year, $176.6 million contract, averaging just under $29 million per year—a reasonable move for the team, even if it means offering the most lucrative wide receiver extension in NFL history.

Given Chase’s value, the Bengals should consider paying above market rate if it secures his services through the 2029 season.
