BREAKING NEWS: Phillies Face Significant Setback As Starting Baseman Suffers Severe Injury

On Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies placed All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list due to a strain in his left hand.

Bohm sustained the injury while swinging during the Phillies’ game against the Atlanta Braves on August 29. He remained with the team in hopes of a quick recovery, but as his condition did not improve as anticipated, the Phillies decided to remove him from the active roster.

Bohm expressed his frustration, saying, “It was up to them how long they wanted to be short a player on the bench. I don’t want to be a liability if I’m not able to play. We’re down a man, and if something unexpected happens, we might be in trouble.”

Despite practicing defensive drills and taking dry swings as recently as Thursday, when the Phillies began a four-game series against the Miami Marlins, Bohm’s inability to advance to hitting a baseball made it clear he couldn’t continue with the team.

“It’s pretty useless at that point until I can hit,” Bohm admitted. “It reached a point where swinging was not possible.”

He recalled experiencing similar pain in 2021, which sidelined him for 16 days, describing the sensation as if his hand had been struck by a hammer.

“We’ll focus on strengthening it and doing what we can without causing pain,” Bohm said. “I’ll let it rest and heal, and be ready when it’s fully healed.”

Before his injury, the 28-year-old Bohm was having an outstanding season, contributing significantly to the Phillies’ eight-game lead in the NL East as of Friday.

Bohm was hitting .290, and his 89 RBIs placed him in a tie for fifth in the National League with teammate Kyle Schwarber. He was also chosen as the NL’s starting third baseman for this year’s All-Star Game.
