The Green Bay Packers endured a tough start to the NFL season, suffering a 29-34 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles and losing their star quarterback, Jordan Love, to an MCL sprain.
The game, held at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo—the first NFL matchup ever in Brazil—saw the Packers trailing by five points. With just 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Love began a drive with a 33-yard completion to Jayden Reed.
However, on the second play of the drive, Love was hit by defensive tackle Jalen Carter and linebacker Josh Sweat while attempting a pass. He stayed on the ground after the hit and needed assistance to leave the field. Backup quarterback Malik Willis took over for the last two plays but couldn’t advance the ball.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that preliminary tests indicate Jordan Love has a sprained MCL. If this diagnosis is confirmed, Love is expected to be sidelined for approximately three to four weeks.

This news is a significant setback for the Packers, who were expected to be major contenders in the NFC following a strong finish to the 2023 season.
Prior to the injury, Love had completed 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. This game marked his debut since signing a four-year, $220 million extension, making him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL alongside the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow.
