Latest Update: Kalen DeBoer provides injury status on Alabama football’s redshirt freshman

Alabama wide receiver Cole Adams exited the Crimson Tide’s 42-16 victory over South Florida early in the fourth quarter after appearing to sustain a significant injury to his right arm. He did not return to the game.

Following the game, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer had no specific updates on Adams’ condition. “It was an arm injury,” DeBoer said. “We’ll have to assess how serious it is. At first, I thought it was something with his lower leg, but we’ll evaluate his status during the week.”

Adams, a redshirt freshman, had taken over punt return duties starting in the season opener against Western Kentucky and was also earning reps at wide receiver. In Saturday’s game, he recorded one catch for five yards. Although Alabama struggled for much of the game, they pulled away from USF late.

Looking ahead to next week’s game against Wisconsin at Camp Randall, Adams’ availability is in question, and the biggest concern is who will take over as the punt returner if he’s unable to play. Freshman defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe, who had a 28-yard punt return in a key moment against USF, could potentially step into that role.

Alabama is set to face Wisconsin next Saturday in Madison, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on FOX.
