The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a dreadful Week 1 performance that many would prefer to forget entirely in hopes of a quick rebound. However, things may be getting worse for the team.
This Sunday, the Bengals are set to face the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, and they may be without one of their top players, wide receiver Tee Higgins. After an already poor showing in Week 1, where they struggled offensively and defensively, the Bengals fell to the New England Patriots, who were led by Jacoby Brissett. Cincinnati couldn’t get their offense going or stop the Patriots from moving the ball.
With Week 2 approaching, the Bengals were hopeful that Higgins would return after sitting out Week 1 due to a hamstring injury he sustained in practice before the season opener. Though he was listed as doubtful for the first game, the expectation was that another week of rest could help him recover.
However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, during an appearance on Pat McAfee’s show, indicated that Higgins’ chances of playing in Week 2 are slim. “He’s got a hamstring injury. We’ll see how the week goes, but I’ll be surprised if he plays this week against the Chiefs,” Schefter said.
Higgins has been a key player for the Bengals in crucial games against Kansas City, including their postseason clash last January, where he caught 6 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Without Higgins and still adjusting to the absence of running back Joe Mixon, who left during the postseason, the Bengals may be in for another tough outing on Sunday.
