LSU Suffers Early Blow with Key Defensive Tackle severe Injury

LSU Suffers Early Blow Four days after running back John Emery tore his left ACL in practice, LSU suffered another setback, losing a key veteran defender early in Saturday night’s home opener against Nicholls State.

Senior defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory injured his lower right leg on the fourth play of Nicholls’ second possession in the first quarter. Guillory was helped to the sideline, fitted with a walking boot, and then taken off the field in a wheelchair.

LSU coach Brian Kelly had no immediate update after the game, saying Guillory would undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury. “I haven’t received a report yet,” Kelly stated. “They’ll likely do some imaging to get all the information before making any conclusions.”

In the second quarter, wide receiver Kyren Lacy gave LSU a brief scare when he caught a pass from Garrett Nussmeier and attempted to hurdle Nicholls cornerback Malik Woodery at the goal line. Lacy completed the 32-yard touchdown but landed hard on his back after being flipped mid-air by Woodery.

After being evaluated by trainers, Lacy walked off the field under his own power and returned for LSU’s next drive, though he appeared slightly hobbled. Despite this, Lacy caught 6- and 7-yard touchdowns in the third quarter, finishing the game with five receptions for 65 yards and three scores.

Guillory’s injury appeared to be the most significant of the night, but Nussmeier also left late in the second quarter with a leg cramp. He returned for the Tigers’ first drive of the second half, finishing with 27 completions on 37 attempts for 302 yards and six touchdowns.
