The Minnesota Vikings agreed on a two-year contract extension with defensive tackle Harrison Phillips on Tuesday, solidifying the role of one of their top run-stoppers and most dependable players.
Phillips, 28, is now in his third season with the team. In the season opener against the New York Giants, he made five tackles, recorded a sack, hurried the quarterback once, and deflected a pass. The Vikings’ defense allowed only 240 yards and six points in that game.
Phillips has been a consistent starter for the Vikings, starting all 17 games in each of his first two seasons. Last year, he posted a career-high 92 tackles, the second most among NFL defensive linemen, trailing only Derrick Brown with 103.
