BREAKING: Vikings Veteran RB faces unfortunate situation of having to capitulate assets amid $12 million debt

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has reportedly been ordered by a Texas judge to surrender personal assets to settle debts exceeding $12 million. According to ESPN, a court-appointed receiver, Robert Berleth, requested the order in July, leading a judge to instruct constables in Fort Bend County, Texas, to accompany Berleth to Peterson’s home in Missouri City, Texas to ensure order during the process.

Peterson’s financial troubles began when he took out a $5.2 million loan from a Pennsylvania lender in 2016. With accumulated interest and legal fees, the debt grew, resulting in an $8.3 million judgment against him in 2021. The public relations firm representing Peterson, Entertainers & Athletes Group, issued a statement about the situation on Tuesday.

Peterson last played in the NFL in 2021 with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks. Over his career with the Vikings from 2007 to 2016, Peterson amassed 11,747 rushing yards on 2,418 carries, scored 97 touchdowns, and averaged 95.5 rushing yards per game. He was named NFL MVP in 2012, a four-time All-Pro, and a seven-time Pro Bowl selection. With three league-leading rushing titles over his 15-year career, Peterson ranks fifth in all-time rushing yards with 14,918, behind Barry Sanders (15,269), Frank Gore (16,000), Walter Payton (16,726), and Emmitt Smith (18,355).
