On Friday, Sept. 13, highly-rated 4-star defensive lineman and USC Trojans commit, James Carrington, shared a devastating update on social media.
If I don’t make it to a game or a campus visit it’s not because I don’t want 2, SORRY we just can’t afford any plane tickets right now-hotel room. We trying to keep the lights on, and food in the refrigerator, etc. Thanks for understanding. 🙏🏽

“If I don’t make it to a game or a campus visit it’s not because I don’t want (to),” Carrington wrote. “SORRY we just can’t afford any plane tickets right now-hotel room. We trying to keep the lights on, and food in the refrigerator, etc. Thanks for understanding.”
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 270 pounds, James Carrington is ranked as the No. 35 overall prospect and the second-best defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class, according to Rivals.
USC, led by Lincoln Riley, first offered Carrington a scholarship in October 2023, and he later visited the campus for the Trojans’ spring game in April.
Carrington began his high school football journey at St. Frances Academy in Maryland, before transferring to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee in Georgia for his sophomore year, where he recorded 22 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He then moved to Bishop Gorman in Nevada for his junior season.
While unofficial visits are funded by the prospect’s family, official visits—where the school covers travel, lodging, and other expenses—are fully sponsored by the recruiting institution. A 2023 NCAA rule change allows recruits to take an unlimited number of official visits, although only one per school is permitted unless there’s a head coaching change.
