Nebraska football recently secured a notable victory against Shedeur Sanders and Colorado. However, leading up to the game, the team faced a setback with a key loss on their offense.
Walk-on tight end Mac Markway, who joined Nebraska from LSU, sustained an ACL tear before the matchup with the Buffaloes and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, according to Mitch Sherman. Markway, who still has three years of eligibility left, will redshirt this year.
Markway was a highly sought-after recruit out of high school and unexpectedly decided to leave LSU for Nebraska this summer, catching the Cornhuskers off guard when he arrived at their facility in August. His move was facilitated by transferring as a regular student rather than through the transfer portal.
In his freshman year at LSU in 2023, Markway had three receptions for 16 yards. He was heavily recruited by top programs like Alabama, Oregon, and Michigan. Given his Iowa roots and LSU’s tight end situation, Markway and his family saw an opportunity to join an improving Nebraska program.
“Mac wanted to return to his roots in the Big Ten and be closer to his family,” said Mac’s father, Matt Markway, in August. “He was eager to play and didn’t want to sit out.”
Matt Markway also expressed confidence in Nebraska’s trajectory, stating, “They’re definitely on the rise. Having been around football for a long time, you can see a program starting to turn the corner. Mac is excited to be a part of that, and I think people there will appreciate his style of play.”
