Mets shake up their pitching staff in a high-stakes rotation overhaul ahead of a crucial weekend series

The New York Mets currently hold one of the three National League Wild Card spots and are close to overtaking the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres for the top two positions. However, their grip on the third and final Wild Card is very slim, with the Atlanta Braves right behind them.

To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Mets must minimize losses, and they face one of their toughest challenges yet: a series against the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. To maximize their chances, the Mets have adjusted their pitching rotation for this crucial matchup.

The Mets have adjusted their pitching rotation, moving David Peterson ahead of Tylor Megill to face the Phillies in a crucial weekend series.

Although Megill was impressive in his last start, Peterson has performed better overall in 2024, with a 2.98 ERA compared to Megill’s 4.48. This move strategically positions Peterson, a left-hander, to challenge Philadelphia’s lineup, which features strong left-handed hitters.

The Mets aim to avoid being swept and are treating this as a must-win series.
