Darren Harris, the new sharpshooter for Duke basketball, has suffered a fracture in his non-shooting hand, as announced by the program on social media Friday afternoon. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing from Paul VI Catholic (Va.) underwent surgery at Duke Medical Center on Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the report. The Blue Devils did not provide details on his recovery timeline or how the injury occurred.
Harris, ranked No. 38 overall in the 247Sports 2024 Composite and considered one of the top rookie shooters in college basketball, joined the team in Durham this week with the other five members of the nation’s top recruiting class. This group includes five-star forward Cooper Flagg, five-star center Khaman Maluach, five-star big man Patrick Ngongba II, five-star wing Isaiah Evans, and five-star forward Kon Knueppel.
With the full roster now assembled, including four key transfers and returning guards Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, Duke has started its offseason workouts and intrasquad scrimmages. The Duke basketball social media team has shared some individual highlights and will release scrimmage footage soon.
Duke’s 2024-25 season is set to begin under third-year head coach Jon Scheyer on November 4, when they will face Maine at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
