Rams Shake Up Roster, Sean McVay’s fast-paced roster adjustments continue as the Los Angeles Rams made another move on Saturday, waiving safety Russ Yeast to clear space for defensive back Cam Lampkin. Yeast, a seventh-round draft pick in 2022 from Kansas State, has been a reliable player for the Rams, appearing in 33 games and starting nine during the 2023 season. Over the course of his time with the team, Yeast contributed 61 tackles and five pass deflections, proving to be a solid part of the secondary.
The Rams are gearing up for their Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, and in addition to the change at safety, they activated offensive lineman Justin Dedich and tight end Nikola Kalinic from the practice squad. These moves address some of the Rams’ depth concerns, especially on the offensive line, which has been dealing with multiple injuries. The decision to promote Dedich makes sense as the Rams seek to reinforce protection for quarterback Matthew Stafford, who will need more support given the line’s current situation.

As for Lampkin, the undrafted defensive back out of Washington State impressed the Rams’ coaching staff during his time on the practice squad. His promotion to the 53-man roster over a player like Yeast signals that McVay and his team see potential in Lampkin’s abilities. If no team claims Yeast off waivers, he could still return to the Rams by rejoining the practice squad, providing depth as the season progresses.
These roster adjustments reflect McVay’s proactive approach to maintaining flexibility in response to injuries and performance. With the Rams facing some early-season challenges, especially on the offensive line, these moves may be critical to keeping the team competitive as they look to build momentum in the coming weeks.
