Titans Coach Callahan Delivers Grim Update as Team Faces Crisis

Will Levis made another costly mistake. The second-year quarterback from Kentucky committed a turnover during the Tennessee Titans’ 24-17 defeat to the New York Jets on Sunday.

While leading 7-0 and looking to add more points, Levis attempted to pitch the ball backward to running back Tyjae Spears while evading Jets pressure. However, the pitch was too short, causing Spears to stumble as he tried to recover, and Jets linebacker Quincy Williams ended up with the ball.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan was frustrated with Levis.

“It was a poor decision,” Callahan said. “It was the exact same mistake he made last week, which cost us points in the red zone. He’s an adult and should know better, so I was really annoyed that he took away three points in a game where we could have really used them.”

Fans could see Callahan’s frustration clearly during the game. As Levis walked off the field, CBS cameras captured the first-year head coach visibly yelling at his quarterback.

The Jets didn’t capitalize on the subsequent drive, but the fumble still cost the Titans at least three points in a game they ultimately lost by seven. Tennessee made a last-ditch effort to equalize, but they failed to score on a fourth-and-goal from the Jets’ 14-yard line.

This isn’t the first puzzling turnover for Levis this season. Last week, against the Chicago Bears, he threw a pick-six that was entirely avoidable. Facing pressure from Chicago’s defense, Levis attempted to release the ball but ended up tossing it directly to Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson.

The touchdown gave the Bears their first lead of the game after they had been trailing 17-0 in the second quarter, and they eventually secured a 24-17 victory.

With the loss to the Jets, Tennessee fell to 0-2 and will need to secure their first win of the season against a tough Green Bay Packers team next Sunday.
