The Mets received positive news today as Francisco Lindor’s MRI results came back clean. While he’s not in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Nationals, he isn’t expected to miss much time. His return will depend on how his back responds over the next few days.
This outcome is the best-case scenario after Lindor, who has been playing at an MVP level this season, left Sunday’s 2-1 loss after just one inning. This followed his absence from Saturday’s game, his first missed game of the 2024 season, which the Mets also lost to the Phillies.
With 13 games remaining in the regular season, the Mets are tied with the Braves for the final NL Wild Card spot, while trailing the Diamondbacks by two games and the Padres by 3.5 games. Lindor’s prolonged absence would significantly hurt their playoff chances. Lindor mentioned that he hopes to play during the Washington series but is unsure how realistic that is. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed relief at the clean MRI results, fearing the worst after Lindor’s early exit on Sunday.
Lindor is enjoying an MVP-caliber season, slashing .271/.342/.494 with 31 home runs, 86 RBIs, 103 runs scored, and 39 doubles. His 7.4 fWAR leads all NL hitters (ahead of Shohei Ohtani by 0.3), and his 136 wRC+ would be a career best. He’s also aiming to become only the second Met with multiple 30-30 seasons, needing just three more stolen bases to reach that milestone.
