The Minnesota Vikings have had an unexpected 2-0 start to the season, securing victories against the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. Both their offense and defense have shown strong performances, with Bryan Flores’ defense making an impact and Sam Darnold thriving in Kevin O’Connell’s system. However, there are emerging reports that a key player might not be with the team for long.
Vikings Suddenly On The Brink Of Star Leaving For New Team (Report)
Brian Flores has enabled defensive players to excel in Minnesota, leading to what KSTP’s Darren Wolfson describes as a “tricky” contract situation for star safety Camryn Bynum.
Wolfson stated on the September 17 episode of SKOR North’s “Minnesota Sports with Mackey and Judd” podcast that he hopes Bynum will remain with the team beyond this year. He mentioned ongoing discussions about a contract extension, but noted the challenges in finalizing it before Week 1.
While Wolfson expressed a desire to keep Bynum, he acknowledged that the team isn’t likely to use the franchise tag on him. He also pointed out that, despite having cap space in 2025, it may be unrealistic to heavily invest in that position.
Additionally, starting cornerbacks Byron Murphy Jr., Shaquill Griffin, and Stephon Gilmore all have expiring contracts. The Vikings are expected to focus on strengthening the defensive tackle position in free agency again in 2025, following their successful signing of Christian Wilkins in March.
