During the No. 21 Tigers’ second offensive drive, Mafah, the starting running back, caught a 4-yard pass along the right sideline but was injured after being tackled. He was slow to get up and eventually laid back down. Trainers quickly attended to him, and he walked off the field under his own power, heading straight to the injury tent amid cheers from the Memorial Stadium crowd.

After spending about five minutes in the tent, Mafah returned to the game and immediately scored a 38-yard rushing touchdown on his first carry, finishing with a team-high 107 rushing yards.

Postgame, Mafah explained that he had suffered a shoulder stinger but felt fine. Regarding the moment he fell back down, he clarified that it wasn’t as dramatic as it looked; a Clemson trainer had advised him not to rush getting up in case his injury was worse, prompting him to lay back down.
