Devastating Blow: East Carolina Loses Star Cornerback for Season After Brutal ACL Injury

Devastating news hit Greenville, NC this week, as East Carolina will feel the impact for the remainder of 2024. Star cornerback Shavon Revel is out for the season after tearing his ACL during practice ahead of Saturday’s game against Liberty. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the injury.

Revel, a projected first-round NFL Draft pick and ranked as the No. 2 cornerback on Mel Kiper Jr.’s board, had an impressive 2023 season. He earned Second Team All-AAC honors with 54 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception, one fumble recovery, and 13 pass breakups. He also blocked two punts, showcasing his versatility and ability to impact the game in various ways.

Standing 6’3″ with a lengthy frame, Revel had started 2024 strong, recording two pass deflections and two interceptions. In last week’s game against Appalachian State, he scored a 50-yard pick-six in the first quarter, helping ECU jump to a 16-0 lead.

Unfortunately, the Pirates will now have to continue without him as they chase their first-ever AAC title. Filling in for Revel is former four-star recruit Dontavius Nash, a North Carolina transfer who recorded 34 tackles in his debut season with ECU and has logged three starts this year.

ECU will now face Liberty this Saturday, aiming to break the Flames’ 15-game regular season win streak in what will be the first meeting between the two teams.
