Breaking News: Another Boston Red Sox Top Player Reportedly Out Of The Season With Knee Injury, Alex Cora Confirms.

Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen, a four-time All-Star, will miss the final six games of the season after being placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a sore right shoulder.

In response, Boston has called up right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester.

Jansen, who turns 37 next week, has posted a 4-2 record with a 3.29 ERA and converted 27 of 31 save opportunities in 2024, his 15th season in the majors. He is set to become a free agent after the World Series.

Red Sox reportedly open to trading Kenley Jansen, other relievers

On Sunday, Jansen pitched a scoreless inning and recorded a strikeout in the first game of a doubleheader sweep against Minnesota.

Manager Alex Cora confirmed after the second game that Jansen had been dealing with soreness and was likely headed for the injured list.

Jansen led the National League in saves in 2017 with the Dodgers and in 2022 with the Braves. He won a World Series title with Los Angeles in 2020 and played for Atlanta before signing a two-year deal with Boston ahead of the 2023 season.

With 447 career saves, Jansen holds the most among active players and ranks fourth all-time in MLB history.
