The Minnesota Vikings currently boast the second-best defense in the NFL in terms of points allowed after three games, and much of the credit goes to defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Minnesota has limited its opponents to just 30 points total (an average of 10 points per game) over those three matchups, which included strong competition from playoff-winning teams like the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.
As a result, Flores is now being mentioned as a potential candidate for head coaching positions across the league, including a possible role with the Dallas Cowboys, where Mike McCarthy is the current head coach.
“Flores, 43, held a 24-25 record as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021. He is also a plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit against the NFL, alleging racial discrimination with claims against the Giants, Broncos, and Texans,” Bill Bender of The Sporting News wrote on September 25. “After spending 2022 with the Steelers, Flores has emerged as one of the league’s top coordinators for his work with the Vikings this season. Minnesota ranks in the top 10 in scoring defense, and Flores is making a strong case for another head coaching opportunity. Dallas could be a fit if [Jerry] Jones is looking for a defensive-minded leader.”
