New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested early Saturday morning on several charges, including assault.
Braintree police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence, where the caller described an altercation between two individuals. Following their investigation, officers arrested the 29-year-old Peppers. He faces charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of cocaine.
Emergency medical services treated the victim at the scene, but no updates on their condition have been provided.
Peppers had a brief arraignment hearing in Quincy District Court on Monday morning, where not guilty pleas were entered for all charges. He was ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victim. His attorney stated in court that Peppers accepted this condition, despite evidence suggesting the allegations may be questionable.
He posted $2,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 22, though he has waived his appearance.
As a team captain, Peppers missed Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury. A New Jersey native, he is in his third season with the Patriots after three seasons with the New York Giants and two with the Cleveland Browns.
The Patriots released a statement on Monday regarding the incident, saying, “We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend that is currently under police investigation. We will have no further comment at this time.”
