Defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis announced today that he will redshirt and transfer after the season, meaning he won’t be playing for the remainder of this year and will enter the transfer portal when the season ends. This announcement follows Alabama’s 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt, where the Crimson Tide’s defensive line struggled against the Commodores. Oatis, a former four-star recruit, recorded four tackles, two pass breakups, a quarterback hurry, and a pressure this season.
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer addressed the news during his Monday press conference, stating, “I had a feeling this was coming. You have to consider other factors—health, personal life. These guys work hard, and Jaheim’s decision has reasons behind it. He’s been in communication with us, and this isn’t something that just happened today. We’ll move forward with the players who can help us win and focus on our program.”
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack also commented on Oatis’ decision, saying, “He’s been dealing with injuries and hasn’t been able to perform the way any of us would like. My focus is on the players who are doing everything they can to help us win games.”
In the loss, Alabama was outplayed, with Vanderbilt amassing 418 total yards, 26 first downs, and converting 12 of 18 third-down attempts against the Crimson Tide’s defense.
