Browns brace for offensive shake-up after trading top starting QB
Many are blaming Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns’ disappointing 1-4 start, and it’s understandable given his fully guaranteed $230 million contract. He hasn’t thrown for more than 200 yards this season and has been sacked 26 times.
Now in his third year with the team, the situation has unfolded worse than Browns fans could have imagined, leading to speculation that the team might draft another quarterback, as suggested in a recent mock draft.
Browns brace for offensive shake-up after trading top starting QB
CBS Sports’ latest mock predicts the Browns will secure the third overall pick and select Colorado standout Shedeur Sanders, which a Reddit user in r/Browns described as “an extremely Cleveland Browns thing to do.”
From CBS Sports. A way too early mock draft. This feels like an extremely Cleveland Browns thing to do.

CBS Sports justifies the pick in the mock draft by stating, “No one questions that Cleveland needs to make a change at quarterback. Signing Sam Darnold next offseason is probably not in the cards considering what they will owe Watson, but the idea of taking a quarterback in the draft makes a lot of sense.”
Given that the team is still bound by Watson’s contract, escaping it seems nearly impossible, making the idea of drafting a rookie QB difficult to imagine, especially considering his struggles this season.
Selecting Watson’s eventual successor and letting him sit on the bench until Watson’s contract expires would also create an awkward dynamic.
While many Browns fans might be excited about the possibility of acquiring Shedeur, it feels premature to consider such a significant shift right now.
