Patriots Practice Squad Linebacker Elevated for London Clash with Jaguars

The New England Patriots have elevated linebacker Ochaun Mathis from the practice squad for their upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

This marks the second time this season Mathis has been called up; he previously played 11 snaps on special teams during the Patriots’ loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.

A sixth-round pick from Nebraska in the 2023 NFL Draft, Mathis appeared in eight games as a rookie with the Los Angeles Rams before being released during roster cuts in late August. He then joined the Patriots’ practice squad, where he has been since.

Mathis’s elevation comes after the Patriots listed two linebackers, Sione Takitaki and Curtis Jacobs, as questionable for the game due to knee injuries. Overall, the Patriots have eight players on their injury report.

Offensive tackle Vederian Lowe did not travel to London and was ruled out on Thursday. Alongside Takitaki and Jacobs, other questionable players include running back Rhamondre Stevenson (foot), wide receiver Javon Baker (illness), guard Michael Jordan (ankle), and cornerbacks Jonathan Jones (shoulder) and Marco Wilson (groin).

The lack of elevation for players at those positions is a potentially positive sign for the team.

The Patriots’ Week 7 matchup against the Jaguars is set to kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET at Wembley Stadium in London.
