Exciting Official Visit: Top 4-Star Recruit Set to Explore Minnesota This Weekend

The Minnesota Gophers are aiming for their second commitment for the 2025 class, and that prospect may be visiting campus this weekend for an official visit. We spoke with 6’5″ Jacob Ross from Virginia tonight.

Currently playing at SoCal Academy in California, Ross is originally from Virginia, where he played AAU basketball for Team Melo in the EYBL and most recently for Team Loaded in Adidas this summer. According to 247 Sports, Ross is ranked 153rd nationally and holds a four-star rating.

The Gophers recently scouted Ross in action, and now he is set to visit the campus.

“I’ve been in touch a lot with assistant coach Josh Adel from Minnesota,” Ross said. “He saw me play at an event in California and liked my performance, so we’ve been communicating frequently.”

Ross will be on campus this weekend for Homecoming, coinciding with the football team’s game against Maryland.

“They’re a Big Ten team in a Power Six Conference; who wouldn’t want to play at that level coming out of high school? It’s a solid program, and they made significant progress last year under the new coaching staff. I’m really excited to see what it’s like.”

So far, Ross has taken one other visit this fall.

“I also visited Old Dominion,” he noted. “I’ve been hearing from Coastal Carolina, Seattle University, ODU, and Minnesota.”

According to Adam Finkelstein of 247 Sports, Ross made it into the rankings due to his ability to “infuse energy, athleticism, and defense” into his team. Ross describes himself as:

“I’m just a competitor, someone who wants to win and will do whatever it takes for the team to succeed. That’s the best way to describe me.”
